Bunions (Hallux Valgus)

OPD

What Is a Bunion?

A bunion (Hallux Valgus) is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. It develops when the big toe pushes against the next toe, forcing the big toe joint to get bigger and stick out. The overlying skin can become red, swollen, and extremely sore when rubbing against footwear.

Common Symptoms

A visible bulging bump on the outside edge of the big toe joint · Swelling, redness, or soreness around the big toe joint · Persistent or intermittent joint pain · Calluses where the first and second toes overlap · Restricted movement of the big toe

Our Treatment Approach

Digital X-ray assessment & angle measurement → non-surgical management (bunion pads, custom orthotic insoles, toe separators, and wider footwear) → pain & inflammation management → minimally invasive bunion surgery (bunionectomy / osteotomy) for severe, persistent cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can bunions go away without surgery?
Non-surgical treatments relieve pain and prevent the bunion from worsening, but only surgical intervention can physically remove the bony bump and realign the toe joint.
How long is recovery after bunion surgery?
Modern minimally invasive procedures allow weight-bearing in specialized post-op shoes within days, with complete recovery in 6 to 8 weeks.
