What Are Corns & Calluses?

Corns and calluses are areas of thickened skin that develop from repeated friction or pressure — typically from ill-fitting footwear, abnormal gait, or bony deformities. In a high-risk foot, what looks cosmetic can become a genuine risk: cracked, thickened skin is a common starting point for ulcers.

Common Symptoms

Thickened, hardened patches of skin, often on the toes, soles or sides of the feet · Tenderness or pain under pressure · A small, hard core (corn) or broader thickened area (callus)

Our Treatment Approach

Assessment of the underlying cause (footwear, gait, bony structure) → careful debridement/trimming of the thickened skin → custom orthotic devices to redistribute pressure → footwear guidance to prevent recurrence — addressing the cause, not just the symptom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I trim corns and calluses myself?
Not if you have diabetes or reduced foot sensation — self-trimming risks cuts that can turn into ulcers. See a podiatrist instead.
Will they come back after removal?
Only if the underlying pressure cause (footwear, gait) isn't corrected — which is why we always look at the cause, not just the corn itself.
